An easy formula, the right mixing order and flavor ideas for one drink at home, a party soda bar or a menu that needs fresh inspiration.
DIRTY SODA BASICS • 6 MINUTE READ

Whether you are making one drink after work, building a birthday or bridal shower soda bar, serving a crowd or testing a menu for your business, the goal is the same. A good dirty soda should be cold, fizzy, creamy and full of flavor without tasting like straight syrup. Start with a simple ratio, taste it, then adjust one thing at a time.
A dirty soda starts with a soda or energy drink, then adds flavored syrup and usually cream or creamer. The fun is in the flavor combination. The trick is keeping every part in balance so you can still taste the drink underneath.
1 chilled 12 ounce can of soda or energy drink
.50 to .75 ounce syrup total
1 ounce sweet cream, creamer or half and half
A 24 ounce cup filled with ice
The order matters. It helps the syrup spread through the cup and keeps the cream looking smooth instead of disappearing into a flat drink.
1. Fill a 24 ounce cup with ice.
2. Add your syrups and sauces over the ice.
3. Pour in one chilled 12 ounce can of your base drink.
4. Add cream or creamer last, then stir gently.
Use the formula above with one of these combinations. Start with the smaller syrup amount. You can always add more after you taste it.
Sprite, .50 ounce cherry syrup, .25 ounce lime syrup and 1 ounce sweet cream.
Dr Pepper, .50 ounce vanilla syrup, .25 ounce coconut syrup and 1 ounce half and half.
Orange soda, .50 ounce vanilla syrup and 1 ounce sweet cream.
Too sweet? Add more base drink or cut the syrup next time. Too flat? Use a freshly opened, well chilled can and stir gently. Too heavy? Use less cream. Not enough flavor? Add syrup in small amounts, about .25 ounce at a time. Small changes make it much easier to find your perfect pour.
